Young Fellows
Establishment of YFC
It is with great pleasure that I announce the Young Fellows Committee of The Hong Kong College of Orthopaedic Surgeons (the "College") was established this year, through the support of the Immediate Past President, Professor Peter K.Y. CHIU, the President, Professor Patrick S.H. YUNG, and the Executive Council of the College. It was recognized that the needs of Young Fellows within the College had not been always fully met, and a working group was established under the leadership of Dr. SH WAN during the Presidency of Professor Peter K.Y. CHIU to explore this, which led to the establishment of this Committee.
All Fellows of the College under the age of 40 are considered to be Young Fellows. The objectives of this Committee are to provide a conduit between Young Fellows and the College, to promote professional standards amongst Young Fellows, and to help Young Fellows for professional practice in academic development, practice management and professional skills.
I am honoured and delighted to serve as the first Chairman of the Young Fellows Committee. With the help of 8 other committee members across different clusters in Hong Kong, I hope we can provide a forum for Young Fellows to meet and discuss issues of their career, support for career development, and a channel through which Young Fellows can communicate to the College. We will be sending out a survey to you all shortly and please let us know your views on how the College can be more relevant to your needs.
Finally, I am pleased to announce that the College Council has approved of a new Travelling Sponsorship that will be available to Young Fellows. You are welcome to apply for the 1st round of Travelling Sponsorship for proposed events that will take place between 1 October 2017 and 31 March 2018. The closing deadline is 30 June 2017 (Friday). The regulations and application guidelines as well as the application form are attached with this email. The completed application form and the related documentations should be submitted to the Secretariat Office to the attention of the Chair of Young Fellows Committee. The successful applicants will be notified 1 month before the proposed event. I hope that this can be the first of many initiatives the Committee can bring about on behalf of the Young Fellows in the near future.
I look forward to the support and views from all of you, and hope we shape the future of our College together.
Best wishes,
Dr. KWAN Kenny Yat-hong
